If you’re familiar with Western astrology, you already know plenty about Indian Astrology. Both systems use all the same signs, for instance Aries and Virgo, as well as the planets and the twelve houses. However, along with all of these familiar aspects you can find one key difference which completely turns a chart.

A planet which falls under a particular sign in Western astrology will instead fall under the previous sign in Indian astrology. This is due to the fact that Indian astrology uses a sidereal zodiac. The sidereal zodiac uses the positions of the actual stars that form the constellations. On the other hand, tropical zodiac is adopted in Western astrology. Tropical zodiac is based on where the vernal equinox falls.

However, regardless of this important difference Indian astrology and Western astrology do share much in common. Both include the geometric relationships between various planets as key points of their analysis of charts. These geometric relationships are called aspects. For instance, when two planets form a ninety degree angle, a square is formed.

Indian astrology, which is also called Vedic astrology, is an astrological system based on traditional Indian culture and philosophy. Indian astrology put more focus on past lives and karmic issues whereas Western astrology does not.

Indian astrology can perform all the same functions that Western astrology does, for example analyzing the personality and life patterns of a person, predicting the success or failure or a project, using horoscope matching to determine the romantic compatibility of a couple, and identifying which gemstones

would be best suited to someone.
