The widely known Channel Tunnel or Chunnel extends a huge 37.9 kilometers or 24 miles beneath English Channel joining France and England . Albert Mathieu-Favier, a French engineer, planned a tunnel system which extends across English Channel in 1802 but it really did not become reality until technologies caught up allowing its creation in 1988 and completion in 1994.
